Frugality has become all the more fashionable – particularly of late – yet we still yearn for new designer bags. Pair that with the fact that some bags are proving to be safer investments than stocks and shares RN and you'll probably be left with an overwhelming craving to update your arm candy repertoire pretty pronto. You're not alone.
So what to do? While it's tempting to snap up a super affordable high street one that 'does the job' (for now), if you're in a position to do so, it's wise to actually think long-term and invest. After all, treating yourself to one of the best new designer bags that'll end up standing the test of time is one of the savviest decisions you can make.
Need more convincing? Designer bags of any variety are the accessory that appreciates the fastest, while vintage, pre-loved and second-hand designer handbags have risen in value by an average of 8% per year over the last decade and also outperformed the price of gold. Interesting, right?
But which bags are going to be the 'it' bags this season? According to GLAMOUR editors, Jimmy Choo's Cinch M, Chloé's small Bracelet Hobo, and Mulberry's Soft Bayswater bags are where you should set your sights this season.
Elsewhere, the return of throw-everything-inside, XXL bags has been made even more prominent for 2024 – helped, no doubt, by the likes of The Row's Margaux. Mini bags and clever minaudières (that is, a small decorative clutch) are still having their moment, too, especially the quirky and maximalist silhouettes as seen at Cult Gaia, Judith Leiber, Anya Hindmarch, Olympia Le-Tan and Staud.
Speaking of, have you seen JW Anderson's resin Puffin Clutch? Carrie Bradshaw would chase you down the street for it. That said, if you’re more of a traditionalist when it comes to the best designer bags, classic designs like Saint Laurent's Le 5 5 À 7 and Gucci's GG Marmont, which have both been updated for the new season, will never go out of style.
